Was macht das SpaceUp so besonders?

What Makes SpaceUp Special?
SpaceUp follows the proven Barcamp concept, where participants actively shape the event’s program.
Instead of following a predetermined conference agenda, the program is created collaboratively on-site. Every participant has the opportunity to propose their own topics and formats – whether it’s a short presentation, a workshop, an open discussion, a project showcase, or a collaborative experiment.
This creates an open and collaborative event driven by the knowledge, experiences, and questions of its participants.
You’ll also have the freedom to explore different topics throughout the day. If a session doesn’t match your interests, you can switch to another one at any time.
This flexibility makes SpaceUp particularly dynamic and encourages meaningful interactions between people from different disciplines, industries, and backgrounds.
Space Technology and Innovation in Würzburg
Space technology is becoming increasingly important in Würzburg and the Mainfranken region.
The Würzburg Technology and Start-up Center (TGZ), the Würzburg Innovation and Start-up Center (IGZ), and the Center for Digital Innovation Mainfranken (ZDI) support technology-driven start-ups in fields such as space technology, robotics, artificial intelligence, and Industry 4.0.
TGZ and IGZ are also home to the ESA Business Incubation Centre Bavaria (ESA BIC Bavaria).
This incubation program supports space-related start-ups through funding, coaching, infrastructure, and access to a strong network of industry experts and partners.
SpaceUp brings together start-ups, established companies, universities, research institutions, students, space enthusiasts, and innovation ecosystem stakeholders to discuss new ideas, share experiences, and initiate potential collaborations.

How Does a Barcamp Work?
1. Arrival & Kick-off
The event begins with a welcome session and a brief introduction to the Barcamp and unconference format.
2. Session Pitches
Every participant has the opportunity to propose a topic.
This could be a technical challenge, a new business idea, a research project, a societal perspective, or a visionary question about the future.
3. Collaborative Session Planning
All proposed topics are collected and jointly assigned to the available rooms and time slots.
This means the final agenda is created directly at the event.
4. Sessions
Several sessions can take place simultaneously.
Participants decide for themselves which topics they find most interesting and which discussions they would like to join.
The so-called „Law of Two Feet“ applies: If a session no longer provides value to you, you are free to move to another one at any time.
5. Knowledge Sharing & Documentation
Insights, ideas, and outcomes can be documented during the sessions and subsequently shared with the community.
6. Closing & Networking
At the end of the day, all participants come together once more.
This final gathering provides an opportunity to reflect on key insights, strengthen new connections, and discuss potential next steps.
Why Is This Format a Perfect Fit for the Space Industry?
The space industry thrives on innovation, creativity, collaboration, and the exchange of knowledge across disciplines.
The unconference format provides exactly the right environment for this.
Rather than being passive spectators, all participants are encouraged to contribute their knowledge, questions, experiences, and ideas.
Whether you’re part of a start-up, an established company, a university, a research institution, or simply passionate about space – the second SpaceUp at TGZ brings together diverse perspectives and creates opportunities for unexpected connections and new collaborations.
Join Us for the Second SpaceUp at TGZ!
Bring your questions, ideas, and perspectives on space technology.
Connect with like-minded people, initiate your own session, and network with founders, entrepreneurs, researchers, students, and visionaries.
Together, we’re shaping the future of space technology in Würzburg and beyond.
